Bringing a Regulatory Perspective When Running Denver Airport’s Environmental Program

Hear Janet Kieler, Director of Environmental Programs from the Denver International Airport (DEN), discuss how she leads the systematic development and strategic management of the company's environmental programs and performance.

As the Director of Environmental Programs for Denver International Airport (DEN), Janet Kieler leads the systematic management of environmental aspects, develops strategies for environmental performance, and resolves complex business issues. However, Janet previously served for 11 years as the Permits Section Manager for the Water Quality Control Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and is able to leverage that regulatory knowledge in her current role in industry to advance DEN interest and protect the environment.

In our Coffee & Compliance webinar, Janet shared how she is able to bring empathy for the regulatory viewpoint yet at the same time advocate for practical approaches to permit requirements and enforcement negotiations. She shared some great insights on how regulators view industry, how industry views regulators, and how to account for both when approaching environmental actions.
