Understanding TMDLs for Industrial Facilities (with California Water Board)

Dealing with exceedances of Numeric Action Levels (NALs) this past year is no fun. If you already in Level 1 and your sampling results have you over the NALs again, you need to be ready for Exceedance Response Action (ERA) Level 2 in California. The California Water Board joined Mapistry in this webinar to cover what those exceedances mean and the process for bringing the concentrations down in future storm events under Level 2. In addition, we discussed the timeline ERA Level 2 requirements and the role facilities and Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP)s play. Special guests, Laurel Warddrip and Rebecca Greenwood of the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), joined us to answer questions directly from industrial facilities.

  • Ryan Janoch Founder of Mapistry

Ryan is the founder of Mapistry which provides stormwater services and online compliance software to industrial facilities. He is a professional engineer with nationwide experience in developing and implementing stormwater compliance programs for hundreds of industrial sites, including ready-mix concrete plants, metal recyclers and bulk marine terminals.

Ryan is a former member of the State of Virginia’s Stormwater BMP Clearinghouse Committee and a current member of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) Hearing Board. He has an MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and a BS in Biology and Geology from Tufts University.

  • Laurel Warddrip SWRCB (Guest)

Laurel Warddrip is the industrial stormwater program manager for the SWRCB. Since 2008, she has been developing stormwater permits for them.  She holds a BS in ecology and biology from UC Santa Cruz and is completing her associates degree in Geographic Information Systems.
