Traditionally, industrial manufacturer’s lack real-time visibility into the performance of their environmental compliance programs because info is spread across paper, email, files, and spreadsheets. Too often, this leads to regulatory problems and legal action because compliance gaps and deficiencies go unnoticed and unresolved. Well, Mapistry is solving this problem with our environmental compliance dashboard that provides real-time visibility into performance — and today, I’m excited to announce that our analytics toolkit has become even stronger with the addition of two new reporting features: benchmark parameters and site tags. Our new benchmarking and tagging capabilities make it even easier for manufacturers to get a quick summary of their environmental compliance performance. Additionally, facilities can now more easily identify and understand where they should be focusing their limited time and resources on making improvements.

Benchmark environmental compliance performance

With a few simple clicks, manufacturers can use benchmark parameters to investigate and understand which sites are struggling to meet compliance requirements. The new reporting capability enables users to instantly get a high-level breakdown of the status of their pollutant parameters across all of their facilities. Mapistry also groups results into three categories (“Alarming”, “Flawed” and “Good”) to allow managers to easily compare site performance across regions and states, especially when the local vernacular is confusing. (Did you know that in California “baseline” is most similar to Washington’s Level 1?) In this example, the user can see that their organization is particularly struggling with TSS and Iron, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to them if they’ve read our recent blog post!

Manufacturers can now monitor results by tag type

Mapistry wants to make sure that modern manufacturers have an easy way to evaluate the performance of their environmental compliance programs from a single dashboard. To accomplish this, Mapistry added a more flexible way to group sites and examine one or more groups at a time. To achieve this, we’ve introduced tagging to our analytics tools. With tagging, facilities can monitor and examine environmental compliance performance by any particular tag type, such as Region, Business Unit, Environmental Manager, or State. For example, if you are a waste collection, disposal, and recycling company, you probably have three different types of sites: landfills, transfer stations, and hauling locations. You’ve noticed that a number of your sites are struggling with TSS, but you suspect this is more of a challenge at your landfills than at your other sites. Mapistry’s new tagging function allows you to quickly check this hypothesis with a single click. In this example, notice that 80% of facilities have TSS problems, but only half of these are landfills. That being said, 100% of the landfills have TSS problems, so that might be a good place to start focusing! Configuring custom tags is also easy. To create a new tag (the above site has a “Region” tag and a “Business Unit” tag), click on your email in the upper right-hand corner or you Mapistry dashboard and choose ‘Settings’. Then choose ‘Organization’ in the lower left. Create any tag types you might want here, such as Region, Business Unit, Environmental Manager, State, etc. Next, go back to your home dashboard and below each sites name, you will see a button for specifying the tags for each site. For example, you might specify “Maryland” for the “State” tag, or “Joe Smith” for the Environmental Manager tag. You can even assign multiple tags: maybe the site has two types of business units, for example, “Transfer Station” and “Landfill”.
